金継ぎ体験 Kintsugi Class

In this Kintsugi Class, you will learn the traditional Japanese technique of Kintsugi, where broken ceramic ware is fixed by applying lacquer and gold dust. Our Kintsugi class is usually taught one-on-one, but you can also book a private group class for up to 3 students. Each class takes about 2 – 3 hours, with a break period for curing the bonding agent.

Because this is an introduction class, we do not use real gold dust and lacquer, but a high quality metal substitute and bonding agent instead. The finish and durability is comparable to the traditional techniques. After the Kintsugi restoration is completed, your finished piece can be used as regular ceramic ware. Please keep in mind though, that ceramics repaired with Kintsugi are generally not considered food safe.

Broken Pottery

Please bring your own broken or cracked ceramic piece (for example a teacup with 1 – 2 cracks, or a plate that has been broken into 1 – 2 pieces). If you would like to repair a piece with more damage than that, you might need to book an additional class, since it will take more time to fix the piece.

If you have any questions regarding the repair of your broken ceramic piece, feel free to contact us and tell us the size (height / width / length / diameter) of your ceramic piece and the damage (how many cracks / how many broken pieces). We can give you an estimate on how to fix your ceramic piece.
